Notes
  • The episode opens with a flashback to 5 years ago, where Picard is having dinner at the Ten Forward bar in Los Angeles. The flashback is revealed throughout the episode. A group of young Starfleet officers interrupt him and ask him several questions, prompting him to tell some stories. One of the stories is about him and Beverly's husband Jack Crusher in a disabled shuttle, limping their way home.
  • Picard retells the story to his son Jack in a Ten Forward holodeck simulation, but stops when it's clear Jack had heard the story before. At the end of the episode, Picard realizes Jack was there at the bar five years ago, and had asked him if he had any real family. Picard replied Starfleet was the only family he needed. Jack left.
  • Captain Shaw tells the story of when he first met Picard… while serving on the U.S.S. Constance NCC-10367 (Constellation-class) at the battle of Wolf 359, while Picard had been assimilated aboard the Borg cube (see "The Best Of Both Worlds").
  • The U.S.S. Constance damage report is seen on screen during the closing credits.
  • Seven discovers the body of the real Ensign Foster, who had been dead before they picked up Beverly and Jack.
  • The changeling disguises itself as Ensign La Forge to help Seven and Shaw in nacelle control. They are immediately suspicious, but when La Forge calls Seven "Commander Hansen" instead of "Commander Seven," Seven kills her with a phaser.
  • The nebula and its gravity well were actually a womb for a space-born species. The contractions produced energy waves which the Titan crew used to escape just before many space jellyfish-like creatures emerged from the nebula.
  • Vadic appears to be a changeling.
  • Though the U.S.S. Titan-A is a new class of starship, it was built with 20-year old parts from the previous Luna-class U.S.S. Titan.
  • Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) appears on screen via communications.
  • Michelle Hurd (Raffi Musiker) does not appear in this episode, despite being credited in the end titles.
