Synopsis

A new signal appears, prompting Stamets' emotional return to the mycelial network and leading Burnham, Pike and Owosekun to a pre-warp planet, where they face a complex ethical dilemma. Notes
  • Pike confirms that Spock requested leave, then checked himself into the psychiatric facility on Starbase 5.
  • The new signal originates from the planet the transplanted humans call Terralysium, 51,000 light years away in the Beta Quadrant. Captain Pike notes it would take 150 years to reach it at maximum warp.
  • The colony of 11,000 humans has been broadcasting a distress call for 200 years, coinciding with the date of World War III, circa 2053. During a bombing, an angel appeared and transported the church, along with the 700 people hiding inside it, to "New Eden."
  • A helmet camera recorded the incident. Pike reveals the truth to Jacob, and trades a power cell for the helmet.
  • This is the first episode where Lt. Owosekun is shown as a member of an away team.
  • Tilly learns that May Ahearn is dead, and what she has been seeing is not real.
