Newly minted Captain Lynne Lucero is excited to take command of the U.S.S. Cabot, until she meets Edward Larkin, an ornery scientist who believes he has found a revolutionary new use for tribbles.

• Lucero, an Enterprise science officer, has been promoted to Captain and given the research vessel Cabot. Their first mission is to aide Pragine 63 with their famine situation. Pragine 63 is on the Klingon border.
  
• Larkin suggests using Tribbles (Tribleustes ventricosus) as a food source because under their fur they are meaty like scallops. He genetically modifies them with his human DNA so they reproduce faster.
  
• Tribbles are native to planet Iota Geminorum IV.
  
• There is a post credits scene, a commercial for Tribble cereal.
